Located in the historic city of Xi'an, cradle of Chinese civilization and terminus of the ancient Silk Road, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU) is the only multidisciplinary and research-oriented in China that is simultaneously developing education and research programs in the fields of aeronautics, astronautics, and marine technology engineering. It is now affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Since the establishment of the People's Republic of China (PRC), NWPU has always been one of the nation’s key universities. In 1960 it was approved as a state key university by the State Council. It ranked among China’s top 15 universities in the state’s 7th and 8th Five-Year plans; and NWPU is one of the first 22 universities to have established a graduate school. It was one of the first universities to enter into the 211 Project in 1995 and the 985 Project in 2001. NWPU is a member of the 'Outstanding University Alliance' program and is honored as a National Role Model Unit, a National Pioneer for Optimal Advanced Basic-level Party Organization and a Model University for Graduate Employment etc. NWPU adheres to the motto ‘Loyalty，Integrity，Courage and Perseverance’ while carrying forward the spirit of ‘Strong Preparation，Diligent Effort，Practical Attitude，and Creative Innovation’. NWPU has put its roots down in the west; dedicated itself to national defense and written several ‘firsts’ into the history of the PRC. Now NWPU will continue to pioneer new pathways into the future in the process of building a world first-class university and world first-class disciplines.

The International College was founded in the October of 2007 and in the same year, NWPU became one host university of Chinese Government Scholarship acknowledged by the China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education. Since then, the university has continuously received international students of different majors all over the world.

The scale of the international student enrolment has increased at a fast pace in the ensuing years. Till 2014, 1033 international students have pursued their studies in NWPU, among whom 711 were long-term students and 322 short-term students. The International College offers various programs in English and Chinese medium to meet the requirements of different applicants and disciplines.

There are 14 schools of NWPU which offer bachelor, master and Ph.D. programs to international students. There are nine bachelor majors taught in English, they are Aeronautical Engineering, Astronautics Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics&Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Business Administration, Computer Science&Technology. And 13 schools open more than 30 MS Programs and 15 Ph.D. Programs. We selected experienced professors and supervisor proficient in English to guide and work with international students, among whom 100% have got Dr. Degree and 90% are professors.

NWPU also holds several exchange programs with prestigious universities all over the globe. The Sino-U.S Culture and Humanity Program attracts American students to pursue their studies here each year. And we have established relationships with key Korean universities which are sending exchange students continuously. In addition, International Summer Camp, International Winter Camp and the Chinese Culture and Language Training Program are held yearly in NWPU.The International College, in its capacity as host institution, gives long-term Chinese language courses to applicants of different competency levels. Meanwhile, we have established the long term and close relationships with the Industry Sectors of Algeria, Egypt, Pakistan, etc.
