  • Changsha University of Science and Technology (CSUST) distinguishes itself as an engineering-centered multidisciplinary university, integrating engineering, science, management, economics, philosophy, liberal arts and law, with a stronghold in undergraduate education and a capacity of post-doctoral science and research workstation, conferment of doctoral degrees and recommendation of postgraduates for master degree. The university has, in its development of 60 years, forged its own culture, with the university motto of “Erudition, Endeavor, Integrity, Initiative” and its core value of the “Pavestone spirit” of “Down-to-earth, dedication and enterprising”. Ever since the founding of the university, it has nurtured nearly 400,000 graduates, serving mainly in transportation, power industry, hydrological industry and light industry, making their contributions for the regional and social economic development. It has now enjoyed nationwide undergraduate enrollment in the first batch and an employment rate for its graduates of over 95% always.

     

    The university is listed among the “National Fundamental Capacity Construction Project for Universities in Middle and Western Regions”. It currently has two campuses: Jinpenling campus and Yuntang campus, with an area of around 200 hectares and a total floor space of 1.2 million square meters. The university has fixed assets totaling 3.952 billion yuan. The university has a collection of more than 3.36million printed books, 1344 kinds of domestic and international periodicals and eBooks of around 792.6 thousand. A Science and Technology Novelty Retrieval Workstation by the Ministry of Education and a Power Technology Novelty Retrieval Workstation for Electrical Engineering have been set up.

     

    The University has committed itself to the strategy of “development by talents”. The university is staffed with 1924 full-time teachers, among whom, 310 professors and 650 associate professors. One academician from the Chinese Academy works fulltime here and two academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering hold current posts in CSUST. Among the faculty members, one chief scientist for “973 Plan” projects, three professors with “Yangtze Scholar” titles, three recipients with “National Outstanding Youth Fund”, four national “Top Foreign Experts Projects” (liberal arts and education category), twenty with special allowances by the State council, three “Renowned Teachers of China”, two “National Excellent Teachers”, one “National Moral Standard Teacher”, one young “Yangtze Scholar”, two “Leading Talents for science and Technology of Hunan Province”, one group “Hunan Provincial Hundred Talents Program”, thirteen “Hunan Provincial Hundred Talents Program”.


  • The university has 11 key disciplines on a provincial or ministerial level during the twelfth Five-year Plan period, with the engineering subject ranking among the top 1% of ESI worldwide. It has 3 post-doctoral workstations, 6 primary-discipline and 28 sub-disciplines for doctoral degrees, 24primary-discipline and 121 sub-disciplines for master’s degrees, and 10 postgraduate degree authorizations. It is accredited to confer master’s degrees to those with equivalent academic attainments. The university has 43 natural science innovation platforms, such as two national scientific  research platforms, two innovation teams funded by the Ministry of Education, seven provincial innovation team, ministerial and provincial key laboratories and engineering (technology) research center as well as 6 provincial philosophy and social science research base.

     

    CSUST adheres to the open education thinking by establishing international exchange and cooperation with world partners. We have established exchange and cooperation with some 70 institutions of higher learning and research institutions from more than 20 countries or regions, including the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Russia, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and the Taiwan region, etc. It is accredited to enroll and train international students under China Government Scholarship Programs. Currently, it has over 300 international students studying on campus. We have two Confucius Institutes jointly operating with University of Montenegro and University of Liberia. Over the past few years, the university has sent more than 1000 registered students to study outside mainland China.


INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION COLLEGE

Founded in June 2015, the International College of CSUST endeavours to cultivate international students, carry out Sino-foreign cooperation in education, provide training concerning foreign languages and affairs, and develop extensive international exchange and cooperation. It is a teaching college in line with international standards while with distinctive Chinese characteristics.

 

The College has office of joint-education program, office of international student affairs, center for learning and development including Department of  Chinese International Education, and office of international exchange and cooperation. It is the training base for international talents, window for open education, innovative platform for international exchange and cooperation.

standardizing management and ensuring quality” and the running strategies of “opening, cooperation, amalgamation and development”;  and to promote the coordinated development of international education, exchanges and cooperation, and establish a well-known high-quality instructional international college with distinct characteristics.

 

Objectives

Centered on students’ development, the College carries out the fundamental mission of “strengthening moral education and cultivating talents”, and adheres to the education concept of “moral education as the primary, knowledge as the foundation, ability as the focus, and all-round development”. Besides, it introduces, integrates and absorbs high-quality educational resources abroad, relying on the university’s preponderant disciplines and majors. On one hand, to cultivate highly-specialized foreign-related professionals and industry elites with outstanding ideological quality, international vision and patriotism, spirit of innovation and skills in cross-cultural communication, as well as “solid foundation, wide range of knowledge, strong capabilities, and high quality”; on the other hand, to cultivate foreign highly specialized and administrative talents who understand China and are friendly to China, with satisfactory scientific and humanistic quality, solid professional foundation, outstanding practice ability, and sufficient knowledge in international engineering laws, regulations and practices.
