The Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, known as SWUFE, is one of the Ministry of Education’s 71 key universities. Within this elite group, SWUFE is one of only five universities specializing in finance and economics. SWUFE was established in 1925; it now contains 2 campuses, 27 departments and schools, and 22,000+ students.
SWUFE began enrolling and educating international students in 1996. In 2001, SWUFE was listed as one of China’s key universities for enrolling and educating international students. Since 1996, SWUFE has successfully educated thousands of international students from countries all over the world.
SWUFE takes pride in cultivating a campus atmosphere that emphasizes innovation and the appreciation of fine culture. SWUFE has won the first prize of “Excellent Achievement in the Construction of Campus Culture” awarded by the Ministry of Education of China.
SWUFE has developed international exchange and cooperation with a wide range of prestigious institutions. To date, SWUFE has established partnerships with 130 universities and financial institutions from 36 countries and regions and has co-founded two Confucius Institutes respectively with Ss. Cyril and Methodius University and State University of New York at Albany.
Graduates of SWUFE pursue their careers in international institutions and organizations such as the UN, the IMF, the World Bank as well as Fortune 500 Companies and domestic/foreign universities. The College of International Education of SWUFE was established in 2004. It is the combination of the former Foreign Students Education Center and the SWUFE Training Center for Personnel Working/Studying Abroad. The College of International Education has the following major goals:
To enroll and train foreign students who pursue Chinese language training (non-degree) at SWUFE.
To examine the applications of foreign students who pursue degree study at SWUFE, and enroll the students on behalf of the university.
To implement student exchange programs and other student-related international programs between SWUFE and other partner universities.
To cooperate with other institutes, organizations and enterprises on programs concerning recruitment of foreign students and studying abroad of Chinese students.
SWUFE began enrolling and training foreign students in 1996. In 2001, it was listed as one of China’s key universities for enrolling and training foreign students. In 2004, the College of International Education was established together with a new foreign students building, equipped with advanced facilities. There have been hundreds of self-support, scholarship and exchange students studying at SWUFE since the establishment of the College of International Education, coming from over 40 countries around the world.
The College of International Education has a faculty of more than 20 full and part time professors and teachers, many of whom have experience teaching in foreign countries in Asia, Europe, America and Africa. Highly qualified, our faculty is among the top in western China.

3. Eligibility
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid personal passport, be in good health, and abide by the laws and regulations of Chinese Government and local government, as well as regulations of SWUFE.
(2) Educational background:
A. Applicants for bachelor degree studies must have a graduate certificate from high schools;
B. Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree;
C. Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree;
(3) Applicants must meet all requirements of the majors, including academic level, research ability, language level and others;
(4) Age limit:
A. Applicants for bachelor’s degree studies should be at the age of 18 to 30.
B. Applicants for master’s degree studies should be at the age of 18 to 35.
C. Applicants for doctoral degree studies should be at the age of 18 to 40.
(5) Applicants are not sponsored by any other type of Chinese government scholarship;
(6) For those who have given up their original Chinese citizenship and become foreign citizens, the conditions set by the Document No. 83 (2009) of Ministry of Education of the PRC should be met.
4. Language Requirement
(1) Chinese-Taught Program: HSK certificate (HSK 4), or pass the school exam. Applicants whose native language is Chinese do not need to provide language level certificate.
(2) English-Taught Program: IELTS certificate or TOFEL certificate (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 95 and above), or pass the school exam. Applicants whose native language is English do not need to provide language level certificate.
(3) Language requirements above are the minimum.
